Charleston Stage welcome two longtime supporters and community advocates, Melinda Goins-Fernald and Giles Fernald, to its Board of Trustees. Their ties to the Charleston community, personal love for the theatre, and commitment to service will bring fresh insight and energy to the organization as it continues to grow and evolve in Season 48.

Melinda Goins-Fernald, originally from Ohio, was raised in Hanahan and has called the Lowcountry home for over 40 years. A graduate of Trident Technical College, Melinda spent over two decades as a labor and delivery nurse at East Cooper Hospital. In recent years, she has provided care for others as a Charleston County school nurse at a Title I elementary school in North Charleston. A mother of three grown children, Melinda finds joy in antiquing, reading, walking the dogs, and—always—attending live theatre.

Giles Fernald grew up in southern Maine and joined the U.S. Air Force right out of high school, serving as an air crew member during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After his military service, he earned a business degree from the University of Arizona and began a career at Dun & Bradstreet, focusing on data analytics and corporate training. An aviation enthusiast, Giles eventually returned to the skies and is currently a commercial airline pilot.

“We are thrilled to welcome Melinda and Giles to the Charleston Stage Board of Trustees,” said Managing Director Tim Rogers. “They are thoughtful, engaged, and deeply committed to Charleston Stage’s mission. Their passion for live theatre and their belief in the power of the arts to transform lives will be a tremendous asset to our leadership team.”
