Bernie Mazyck is the founding president and CEO of the South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development (SCACED), the statewide trade association that aims to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by advancing innovative, sustainable solutions in low-wealth communities. Mazyck has helped the organization drive statewide progress in housing and job creation, generating more than $400 million in economic impact. In practical terms, that means that more than 2,500 families purchased their first homes, and economic development organizations created more than 6,000 jobs. Under Mazyck’s leadership, SCACED also helped to secure the South Carolina Community Development Act. Mazyck serves on the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond board (Charlotte branch) and previously was vice president of community development for the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. He also has chaired the board of the National Alliance of Community Economic Development Associations. He holds an undergraduate degree from Charleston Southern University and a Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta. Mazyck was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent in 2004 and the Order of the Palmetto in 2014. In 2024, he was recognized as Charleston Southern University’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.
