GreenbergFarrow (GF) has announced the completion of the new 35,000-square-foot addition at Summerville Elementary School in Summerville, South Carolina. Delivered just in time for the start of the 2026–2027 school year, the project provides a modern educational facility designed to support continued enrollment growth within Dorchester School District Two.
GF provided architectural and interior design services for the project, which includes 24 classrooms supporting Special Education, Individualized Learning Services (ILS), Music, and Art programs. The new building connects to the existing Summerville Elementary School through a conditioned corridor, improving accessibility, circulation, and connectivity throughout the campus.
Located within Summerville's historic district, the design balances respect for the surrounding architectural character with the needs of a contemporary educational environment. The addition references the existing school campus through its exterior design and vernacular, creating a cohesive connection between the new and existing buildings while giving the school a modern, updated presence.
One of the biggest challenges of the project was construction within an active school campus. Careful planning was required to maintain safe operations and minimize disruptions for students, faculty, and staff throughout construction. Despite the site constraints and accelerated construction schedule, the project was delivered with a focus on safety, operational continuity, and long-term functionality.
"The completion of this addition represents an important investment in the future of Summerville Elementary School and its students," said Kelly Hosack, managing director of Charleston office. "We're honored to partner on a project that not only addresses the district's growing enrollment needs but also creates welcoming spaces where students can learn, create, and thrive."
With the addition now complete, Summerville Elementary School enters the new academic year equipped with modern, future-ready learning spaces that honor the school's legacy while supporting the evolving needs of its growing community.
